NSW: Steering "breakage" prompts inspection of 300 Sydney busses
Sydney commuters can expect delays getting to work this morning .. following a recall
of 300 buses because of a mechanical fault.
The buses were pulled from service last night after a metal breakage was found in the
steering system of one of the city's gas-powered Mercedes buses.
State Transit acting chief executive PETER ROWLEY says X-Ray equipment is being used
to inspect the part on all of the buses .. but not all of them will be available for operation
by this morning.
Mr ROWLEY says the buses won't be returned to service until they have been cleared.
Passengers who normally catch buses to work are advised to consider other arrangements
.. including leaving for work earlier or later than usual.
Spare buses will be brought into service .. including those used by some private schools
which are now on holidays.
The service reductions will primarily affect the Victoria Road .. Epping Road .. Anzac
Parade .. and Botany Road corridors .. with minor reductions of Parramatta Road services.
Commuters can contact the Transport Infoline on 131500.
