Qld: Annual road toll eclipses last year

A series of fatal crashes on Queensland's roads during the Christmas period has seen
this year's annual road toll eclipse last year's.

Police say this year's state fatality count has climbed to 334 .. already surpassing
last year's overall total of 328.

But with four days still to go over the notoriously deadly Christmas-New Year period
.. the figure could easily climb.

Police say seven lives have already been lost on Queensland roads since the Christmas-New
Year toll period started on December 22 .. only one fatality short of the total over the
same five-day period last year.
