Qld: Police investigate contaminated muffins
Police are investigating a case of muffin-spiking at a Brisbane function attended by
Olympic athletes.
DEAN MERLO .. from the Merlo Kitchen Catering Company which supplied the muffins ..
says two people found paperclips in the baked treats at a function at the Queensland University
of Technology last week.
He's told ABC radio the muffins were taken away .. and three Merlo employees have been
stood down on full pay until police complete their inquiries.
The Courier Mail reports up to five Beijing-bound Olympians including breast-stroker
CHRISTIAN SPRENGER were at the morning tea for elite athletes .. but none bit into the
chocolate-chip muffins.
SPRINGER's told the paper he's a little freaked by news of the metal contamination
.. but luckily he didn't eat anything.
Police say the incident is NOT linked to a recent supermarket meat contamination scare
in several states.
