Qld:Local knowledge should rule: EMQ boss

The Queensland Floods Inquiry has heard that Brisbane-based emergency service bosses
wanted to send 60 SES volunteers to a flooded town of only 40 houses.

Emergency Management Queensland (EMQ) southwest regional director ROBERT BUNDY told
the commission today that some puzzling decisions were made by the state disaster coordinations
centre during the floods.

It wanted to send 60 SES volunteers to Condamine .. the town of 40 houses that had
no water, sewerage, food or road access.

But Mr BUNDY told the inquiry that people don't want to see an invasion of help ..

and power must remain in local hands when disasters strike.

He spoke to the inquiry after premier ANNA BLIGH this week sent an email to every public
servant assuring them they could speak openly to the inquiry.

The inquiry .. siting in Toowoomba .. continues.
