AT&T job fair draws hundreds?

HARTFORD -- Hundreds of eager job seekers crowded a meeting roomThursday at Hilton Hartford hoping to land one of the more than 130positions AT&T is seeking to fill in Connecticut.

By 3 p.m., with another four hours of the job fair to go, morethan 550 job seekers had met with AT&T representatives at thedowntown hotel, looking for work in one of five categories, saidChuck Coursey, a company spokesman.

The job categories the company is looking to fill are:installation technicians for AT&T's U-verse television and high-speed Internet service, retail sales and sales management, networkrepair technicians, door-to-door sales workers and servicerepresentatives.

Coursey said the company is looking to have all the positionsfilled within a month or two.

"Anyone who wasn't able to make it to the job fair can go onlineand apply for the same jobs," he said. The website iswww.connect.att.jobs/ connecticut-jobs.

Also on hand at the job fair were Rodney Smith, president ofAT&T's Connecticut operations, and Bill Henderson, president of theCommunications Workers of America Local 1298, which represents thecompany's unionized workers. More than half of the positions areunion jobs, Henderson said.
